Total rest and relaxation in the tastefully decorated and well-equipped cave house, plus the true taste of Spain in the local tapas bars. Baza is a cultural delight and old traditions are best seen in the numerous fiestas that are held either here or in one of the local nearby towns.

An unique area that is ideal for photographers, artists, historians, ramblers, bird watchers, archaeologists, and much much more. This really is like stepping back in time and rediscovering the real Spain.
Although the cave house is set in tranquil countryside, it is only a 10 minute walk down the popular town of Baza with all its many facilities.

Granada, Almeria, Murcia, Malaga and Alicante airports are all within an easy drive away. Although car hire is highly recommended, we can arrange an airport transfer at an extra charge. Or courtesy pick up from Baza bus station, which is 10 minutes away.

Cave houses are one of the most pleasant ways to stay in Spain, they offer a welcome retreat from the heat during the summer and are cosy in the winter – always staying at a temperature of between 18c – 20c. Enjoy the modern facilities of our cave house but step 20 years back in time when visiting the true taste of Spain here in Baza.

Located on the lower slopes of the Sierra de Baza mountain range and overlooking the National historic town of Baza, the view continues with one of the best possible of the Altiplano. It’s only a short 10-minute walk down to the town and to its many cultural attractions, tapas bars and restaurants. The cave house is in a wonderful quiet rural setting and it is easy to forget the hubbub of traditional Spanish life is just down the road. The town is a historians dream with the museum, Arabic baths, the Muslim Medina and the ancient fortress ‘ the Alcazabar.

Surrounding the cave house is the diverse range of Landscapes and towns that are so emblematic of this area, with the Sierras and the nearby national parks ( ideal for ramblers) to the arid ‘ Bad lands ‘ and then across to the vast fertile valley.

A short drive away is lake Negratin, with its own beach, swimming and canoe trips. The backdrop to this beautiful lake is Mount Jabalcon where on a good day you can watch the paragliding or parasailing. On the side of the lake, just past Zujar is a thermal baths and it is lovely to take in the scenery whilst lazing about in the hot, allegedly good for you waters. The tapas bar awaits you for afterwards.

The interesting heritage of the cave houses can be found in all the towns within this area, inhabited since time immemorial, first dug out by the Moors are now proving popular as Eco-tourist retreats. The people of Baza still live a life of ancient customs and traditions mainly based around religion or farming. There are many fiestas throughout the year, one of the biggest is the Cascamorras in September. If there isn’t a reason for a celebration in Baza then more often than not one of the nearby towns such as Cullar, Benamaurel, Castillejar, Orce or Freila will have found a reason to party.

Although Baza is a step back in time, it’s only an hours drive away from the cosmopolitan city of Granada, the capital of this province and again steeped in the history of Islamic culture with the most famous attraction being the world heritage site of the Alhambra ( it is advisable to prebook entrance tickets). The city centre has the most wonderful atmosphere for either shop till you drop or people watch at one of the numerous tapas bars. The famous ski resorts of the Sierra Nevada are only another 30 minutes drive away. On the way back it is well worth a stop at Guadix, with its Bohemian atmosphere. It is surrounded by a fascinating ‘termite mound’ type of landscape. An array of lovely pottery is available around this area.

From Baza it is an easy and interesting drive to many of the coastal resorts the nearest being Garrucha, approx an hour away – this is an old-time beach resort for those who no longer thought they existed. It’s neighbour Mojacar is in contrast more refined with it’s newer apartment buildings and tourist shops. The old town Mojacar, set in the hillside, is a wonderful place to take in the scenery and unwind. The nearby town of Vera has a water park and further down the coast nearer to Almeria you will find several cowboy / western style theme parks inc Mini Hollywood and Western Leone.

Back here to the less hustle bustle life for those who enjoy photography, there is a wealth of opportunity from the bird life, the scenery, the architecture or the typical Spanish life. For the more adventurous ramblers there is the Castril gorge walk, I have not done it and don’t intend to but many have and say it is Gorgeous ( excuse the pun!) Even the quiet life around here can fill your day.
